The Two Nappy Bags I’ll be Using This Time (And why I love them)

March 15, 2019

So, my friends, the time has come to finally get a new nappy bag. I’ve not entirely loved the nappy bags I used in the past and although I did buy a proper nappy bag after Hannah was born, I didn’t love it and when I had Audrey it was relegated to storage as I tended to baby wear (I in fact used my expensive pram only ONCE with Audrey! I found it much easier to push Hannah in a simple stroller and carry Audrey either in a Chekoh baby wrap, a ring sling or an Ergo carrier.)

Anyway, as I was baby wearing and/or using a stroller, I found the baby/nappy bag I had much too big and difficult to carry and handle with the two little ones.

This time around, I am planning on baby wearing again so I was on the lookout for a practical, unisex, nappy backpack and potentially a smaller clutch style bag I could also use as a handbag if on a short trip only.

Well, I think I’ve finally found the perfect bags! (And, read on for a special discount code for 25% off!)

Firstly, let’s talk about the backpack. This is the *Robyn Convertible backpack by BabyMel. It’s $144.99 (however I have a special 25% off code for Pretty Chuffed readers – use PC25 to get 25% off).

I love this bag so much – it fits all of my criteria:

  • unisex
  • on-trend but timeless
  • goes with everything
  • has a place for everything
  • can be worn as a backpack
  • but can also be worn as a shoulder bag
  • lightweight
  • affordable
  • easy to clean.

Can be worn as a backpack or a shoulder bag (or across body!)

Just take a look at it, isn’t it fab? I also like the vibe – it’s casual but is a bit dressier than a sports-style backpack for example. And, hubby has given it a big tick of approval too so on weekend outings he’ll be carrying it as well. I’ve given it a good go and packed it with everything I usually carry around with a newborn – nappies, wipes, change of clothes or two, a muslin or two and a bottle of water for me and as you can see it fits everything easily.  One thing I was worried about with this bag is the ease of changing the bag from a backpack to a shoulder bag or cross body bag – however it is much easier than I thought – you just slip the horizontal strap down or up depending on how you want to use it. That’s it!

And, here’s my second little find – the *Storksak Mini-Fix black cross body nappy bag ($60). I often found that when just doing the school pick up, or ducking into the shop, I didn’t need the full nappy bag and could get away with just a few things thrown into my hand bag. This cross body bag by Storksak fits that bill so well – with a place for nappies and an easy to access wipes holder making changes easy, yet it’s not bulky at all and will be easy to carry whilst baby wearing as well.

Change mat fits in the back pocket.

It includes its own change mat, too so you are super prepared. Plus, you an also take off the strap if for example you wanted to use a normal hand bag as a nappy bag – you can just slip this inside and off you go – you have a mat and a place for nappies and wipes. I was quite pleasantly surprised with the overall look and feel of this bag, it looks neat and tidy however doesn’t scream ‘nappy bag’ which is perfect.
