9 Easy to Wear Summer 2020 Trends

October 15, 2020

It’s been a hot minute since I did a trend report – but I feel like now’s the right time. I feel like we are all well and truly over our tracksuits and are ready to embrace the new season by wearing fun, light, easy to wear pieces. I feel even more so this year that I am so excited to dress up and hopefully attend events, whenever this may happen; however more than likely these events will be smaller and few and far between so I don’t want to spend too much on outfits.

With that said, I feel like there’s a renewed focus on really appreciating special occasions and dressing for the everyday because you really do not know what is around the corner. And, I’d prefer to spend with local companies, brands, Australian made where at all possible, and small businesses. You?

With that all in mind, here’s some of my favourite trends to emerge for this season and some buys that I have on my never ending wish list. As always, check your op shops for these before you buy new!

  1. Lilac – pair with other lilac pieces, pinks or pastels for a fun feminine look – or denim and/or white for a fresh take.
  2. Floaty smock dresses – midi or mini – tiered smock dresses in linen or cotton are a perfect, easy summer dress.
  3. Gingham – it’s here to stay! Now in all colours of the rainbow and big or small check. Wear it loud and proud.
  4. White accessories – white shoes have been around for a few seasons now – now its crept into bags and jewellery as well. Wear with block colours, denim or pastels.
  5. All shades of denim – all shades are denim are back. It never goes out! Try less distressing and more tailored cuts this year.
  6. Linen – the spring/summer staple is back (did it ever leave?). Pants, shorts or a linen shirt and shorts combo are hot – comfy and cool.
  7. Wide leg pants – thank goodness for the fun of wide leg pants! Culottes, wide leg denims and palazzo pants are back for this spring/summer. Pair with a floaty top or cami for balmy days and nights.
  8. Shirring – I love shirring – it’s a comfortable detail that gives shape and interest. Find it on sleeves and waists.
  9. Puffed sleeves – Puffed sleeves are back again – and thank goodness because I love them! If you’re sick of the puff, try a floaty frilled sleeve in an oversized silouette.

Here’s some recent buys I’ve worn along these lines!
