I just love the start of the new season and I don’t think there’s any season I look forward to more than autumn. True autumn is perfect where I live here in Brissy with mild days and cooler nights, but it always seems to take SO LONG to actually arrive!
Case in point: it’s already 18 days in autumn here in Brisbane but we are facing 30+ degree days this week (wahhh :(). I always cannot wait to bust out my jeans and boots and long sleeve dresses again and this year it is certainly no different.
There will be a slight change of wardrobe this year, however, as I’ll soon have a little newborn so will be looking to update my wardrobe with breastfeeding friendly winter clothes. In addition I’ll personally be looking for (more) sensible shoes as I’ll be carrying a baby, shepherding a toddler and driving around a schoolkid!
So on that note, I thought I’d put together a list of 8 autumn winter 2019 trends I’m getting behind this year. Now as I always I don’t believe in following every single trend but I do love indulging in some each season – it keeps my wardrobe feeling fresh and fun and keeps me feeling young and (somewhat) onto it. And, although I have provided links here, most of these trends have been around the block and back again so check your own wardrobes first, or of course your local opp shops and thrift stores for similar buys.
Here we go – 8 autumn winter 2019 trends I think you’ll love. (Click on the link below each trend to check out my Pinterest inspiration boards for each.)
1.Snakeskin

Although I’m a massive leopard print fan, I’m loving the additions of zebra and snakeskin this season. Snakeskin lends itself to leather work and I’ll be on the lookout for a cute snakeskin style shoulder bag, however I think the easiest ways to wear this trend are with a button up shirt (simply pair with jeans, or black pants for a work look) ; or boots. I’m personally going down the boots route as I love a statement shoe. I’ll be wearing my boots with jeans and a white tee or a black shirt dress. Easy!

2. Zebra print

In addition to snakeskin, there’s also zebra print which I adore. It’s super easy to pair with a monochromatic wardrobe but looks amazing with brights as well. An easy way to get this look is with a maxi dress or a duster coat. As it cools down, a zebra print scarf would be amazing over a knit and jeans combo, too.

3. Neutrals

This season we are seeing a resurgence in all things neutrals, with linen still a big player. Along with this, comes a focus on other natural fabrics like wool, and white and cream everything is going to be a big trend. If, like me, you have young kids and are a bit scared of the all white and cream look, try just a simple white shirt tucked into denim jeans, a dusty pink knit or add a white boot or bag to your look. A cream chunky knit sweater would also hit the trend – throw it over a rust or beige linen dress and add tan boots and it’s another take on the neutrals trend. Be sure to check out your local op shop for this one as these are classics.

4. Wide leg jeans

I don’t think skinny leg jeans will ever die (universally flattering), however this season try a pair of wide legs. I like my wide legs to be cropped and I wear with heels or heeled boots for the most flattering look. The best news is, is that all shades of denim are on trend so also try a darker denim in your wide leg jeans for an even more flattering look, and tuck in a t-shirt, cami or shirt and wear with heels.

5. Red and pink

This is one of my faves this season. Red and pink are such a fab combo and this is a gorgeous take on this season’s love for the monochromatic and colour blocking. Instead of wearing top to toe in the same colour, however, you can simply pair similar tones – like lipstick red with fuschia, teal with forest green and so-on. My fave combo is red and pink and thankfully there’s so many ways to get this look. Try a print item in red and pink, or a block coloured item with pink or red lipstick or shoes.

6. Yellow

My fave fun colour to wear! This season yellow will be big in all shades – even neon. Choose your fave and wear it with a smile. You can combine different shades of yellow in the same outfit as with colour blocking; wear head to toe in the same shade, or just wear a nod to the trend with a yellow knit jumper, pair of earrings or a pair of boots.

7. Midi skirts

I am so happy this trend has stayed around for so long – not only does it work for maternity wear, midi skirts are fun, go with any shoes (I’ve worn them with sandals, boots and sneakers!) and they dress up a simple t-shirt so easily. Pair yours with a knit and boots for a fun winter look, too. Leopard and other animal print midi skirts are sticking around, too – I love animal print in a pleated or silk slip, 90s style.

8. Oversized denim jackets

This is arguably the easiest trend to get behind this season. Denim jackets are never out of style, however the silhouette changes slightly each year and this year it’s the oversized boyfriend style. I love a vintage style so will be wearing my vintage Sussan jacket (so be sure to scour your local thrift store or online vintage shop first!), however there are many available in store as well.
