A Treasure Trove of Bargains at Brisbane City Council Tip Shops

June 23, 2018

Sponsored by Brisbane City Council

It’s no secret that I love a bargain, in fact that’s what this blog is all about (well, 98%, the other 2% is all about the kidless of course!). So, when Brisbane City Council invited me to go and check out the local North and South Side Tip Shops, I was like HECK YES!

Thrift shopping was one of my favourite pre-kids pastimes (check out my tips here) and now that my two daughters are a little bit older, I don’t get to go as often; however when we do visit, both of my girls also love finding a bargain at our second-hand and opportunity shops.

So, early one Saturday morning (the Tip Shops are open from 8 am and that is when the best bargains are to be found!) we visited the Brisbane City Council North Side Tip Shop at Geebung and OH, did we find some BARGAINS!

Firstly, let me tell you about the Tip Shop. It is not actually located at the tip (if you were wondering!), the Geebung shop is located in an easily-accessible industrial area and is a large warehouse filled with goodies.

The Tip Shops have been set up at Acacia Ridge and Geebung to give Brisbane residents the opportunity to donate, rather that throw away, items that are no longer needed (but still in good condition).

There’s kid’s toys, sporting goods, furniture, decorating items, household goodies, crockery and lots more. Oh, and of course – shoes, bags and clothes! And I am just going to say this now: clothing items are 50 CENTS. Yes, indeed my friends – you can get an entire outfit for less than $5 here (shoes are $4 per pair) and boy, are there some bargains to be found.

And best of all? You’re supporting sustainability – by buying second-hand and not new, you’re saving items from landfill.

Back to the bargains. Did somebody say $4 Jimmy Choos? Um, yes, I did! Oh and $4 ACNE heels?!

Yes, these heels were $4!

I also picked up an entire work-ready outfit for $1.50, with a Portmans polka dot shirt, Cue pants and a Witchery linen blazer, all 50 cents per piece. Add the $4 Jimmy Choos and you are ready for BUSINESS!

Don’t worry, my girls did not go home empty handed, picking up a scooter for $2 and a cool see-saw for $10. And stuffed toys for $1 a piece. Hubby loved browsing the sporting goods and books. (There really is something for everyone!)

I was really impressed with the range of goods and the prices, too. Come with an open mind, be ready to go on a treasure hunt and have fun with it. I noticed many of the hard furniture items were snapped up first, so if you’re after wooden furniture in particular, be there at 8 am to get the best bargains.

The Brisbane North and South Side Tip Shops are open from 8 am – 4 pm Saturdays and Sundays, and are located at 46 Colebard Street West, Acacia Ridge and 27A Prosperity Place, Geebung. Find out more information on the Brisbane City Council website here.

So, will I see you at one of the Brisbane City Council Tip Shops one Saturday or Sunday morning?
