A Day Trip to Bribie Island | What I Wore

January 21, 2017

Confession: before today I had never been to Bribie Island. Last night hubby and I decided to go to the beach the following day, as both of our girls just adore the water and we had no solid plans for the day. Hannah was never into swimming at the beach until recently, but Audrey has been a water baby from birth, and she has absolutely no fear of waves. So we really enjoy taking them for the day.

Usually. we would head to Tallebudgera down the Gold Coast or Kings Beach at Caloundra, and if we feel like a little drive we head to Noosa and stay at my parents’ house. Last night though, we decided we would try somewhere new and thought we would check out Bribie.

Bribie Island is about an hour’s drive from our place, 45 minutes from Brisbane, and is completely accessible by car – it is connected to the mainland by bridge. We have only just turned Audrey’s carseat to face front (I would have prefer to leave it a bit longer, but she is just getting so tall), and she was so funny in the car, laughing and carrying on and then suddenly she fell asleep. Hannah was just excited to head to the beach, so we had a very peaceful drive.

We arrived at Bribie just before 10am and went on to have a quick look at three of the Island beaches – Sylvan Beach, Bongaree Beach (both adjoining Pumicestone Passage so are completely flat – great for kids) and the surf beach, Wirrim Beach. We first took a look at Sylvan Beach which looks great for kids and has some awesome looking playgrounds adjoining, too. We then went to Bongaree to have a look, which looked fun and close to shops and cafes; and then decided we might as well check out Wirrim too.

Wirrim could pass for one of the Sunshine Coast’s beaches many years ago – very pretty yet still easy to find a park and with plenty of facilities, yet not ‘overdone’ with shops, cafes, tourists, resorts and the like. We decided to stay there for a swim. Hubby’s family met up with us there, and we enjoyed a good hour and a half swimming, playing in the sand and searching for pippis.

After Wirrim Beach we went in search of good fish and chips for lunch and came across Savige’s which is apparently quite well-known, and for good reason – the chips were delish and the fish was very fresh. The girls and hubby had a swim at Bongaree and then after an ice cream we were ready to head home. A great day, I can’t believe I haven’t been before – Bribie, we’ll be back!

The curls get me every time!

All day I wore my Target bikini (top here AUD$22 and bottoms currently unavailable online, however these look good too AUD$15) with a gorgeous St Frock maxi kaftan over the top. I couldn’t wait to wear this bad boy, it’s so soft and flowy to wear and I felt very glamorous (well, as glamorous as you can feel, toting a 3 year old and 1 year old plus a beach bag and buckets and spades). I’m wearing the S and it is quite generous – I’d say it would easily fit up to a 12. It’s also quite versatile – the front can be pulled up and buttoned to make it slightly shorter (that’s what I did), and the arms can be buttoned or unbuttoned (I had them buttoned), which is great if you want to take it from day to night with a slip underneath or belted. I’ll be throwing it into every travel bag this year, I can see it now!
