Brought to you by Billy J
Spring racing season is arguably my favourite time of the year. Emerging from the depths of a cool and dark winter (or, well, mild winter if you live in Brisbane or anywhere north!), with all of its layering and denim and knits, you’re often craving something a bit lighter, a bit fresher and a bit more feminine. Enter – spring racing season! And with it, comes florals (I know, groundbreaking), lace and lots of gorgeously bright and light new silhouettes.
Last year, I brought you a spring racing style guide from Billy J Boutique, and this year I’ve once again teamed up with Billy J to bring you three of this season’s hottest spring racing trends, on a budget.
Even if you’re not planning on getting to the track this year, you might have a Melbourne Cup party to attend, a work function or even a charity fundraiser themed event, and need to find something fresh, comfortable and stylish to wear – affordably, of course. So, thats where I come in! Today, I’ve styled three easy peasy spring racing looks that are totally on trend and affordable (in fact I use the same headpiece in each one!).
So, what are three of the major spring racing trends this year? Let me take you through them.
1. Off the shoulder.
You would probably have had to be living under a rock to not notice the trend for 2016 spring/summer – the off the shoulder silhouette. Easier to wear than you might think, invest in a good strapless bra and get your shoulders out! If you don’t often get to dress up, or if you’re a mum to small children, the off the shoulder dress is an on trend, easy way to really feel fab and show a bit of skin. Wear with a fascinator like this one, a standalone headpiece or a beautiful wide brim hat. This would also be a fab Derby Day outfit.

2. Lace.
I LOVE this trend. Midi dresses and lace – with this combination you really cannot go wrong. Lace dresses will be everywhere this spring racing season and I’m so glad. A flattering look on most body shapes, a girly, feminine lace dress is PERFECT for spring racing and would look amazing paired with some fresh flowers in your hair or a girly boater hat. I’ve paired this lace dress with the gold headpiece and accessorised with nude heels and clutch to keep the look light (rather than black heels etc). Gorge! I love this look for Melbourne Cup.

3. Floral boho
Look, florals in spring are not new, but this season we’re seeing the rise of florals in more floaty, feminine silhouettes. Brights and neons have had their day and we’re now looking to more muted tones, with ruffles and off the shoulder silhouettes. This gorgeous dress by BillyJ can be worn quite casually – think sandals and a hat, or do as I have and wear with some heels and a headpiece for a chilled yet comfortable and feminine racing outfit (perfect for Ladies Day or a day at the races with some girlfriends).
