Hello my pretties, so I’ve been enjoying the lovely warm weather we’ve been experiencing up here in Brisbane, so much so that I’ve been thinking of bikins. Yes, bikinis. A group of friends and I are renting a house on the Sunshine Coast for the New Years’ Eve break, and it’ll be full of pool and beach time! If like me, the thought of slipping in to a cossie scares the bejeesus out of you, then fret no more. I’m going to supply you with my no-fail, get-ready-for-summer guide! Best of all, I’ve managed to keep everything under $50. Now, get out the fake tan, stat!!
Steps to summer…a week by week guide
1 month to go
With 1 month to go until summer and bikini wearing, I go through all of my summer clothes, including swimwear, and see if it all fits properly. This includes any cover-ups I might want to wear (kaftans, shorts, singlets). There’s nothing worse than trying to squeeze into swimwear that doesn’t fit and cover ups that are too short or have holes in them (I speak from experience!).
I then try on a few different beach or pool outfits, and see what works best. Don’t feel silly doing this – those who fail to plan, plan to fail!
3 weeks to go
If I need to buy any new things, I do it now. It will give me a chance to work them into my wardrobe.
Work out what suits you. I’ve worn most styles of swimwear in the past, so I think I can give you a low down on my experiences! Check out my swim and beach guide below!
2 weeks to go
This is when I do my body prep. No, this doesn’t entail starving myself for two weeks. I basically ramp up my exfoliating and moisturising routine to make sure my skin glows. Also, take multivitamins, or eat your greens. It’s the best way to get glowing skin.
1 week to go
With one week to go before the big reveal, I book in for a spray tan. Now, tans are not for everyone, but I really love getting my fake tan on, so if this is you, do it now! Don’t sunbake – the age spots, wrinkles and possibly skin cancer are just not worth it. Do it for your future self!
Summer’s here!
Get your bikini or full piece on, and just remember, nothing’s as gorgeous as a girl with confidence. And people don’t worry about what you look like, they’re too busy worrying about themselves. Trust me! xx
Swim and Beach Guide!
Full pieces
Full pieces are very much on trend this season, and suit just about all shapes and sizes. Try one with a halter top and inbuilt cups for that 50s feel. And they often have fuller bottoms on them, very flattering and comfortable for curvy gals.
Look for bright, classic colours (I love red!), and cute prints that are not too girlie – to avoid the risk of looking too ‘young’.
My picks:
-
I buy bikini bottoms with ties on the sides so I can adjust them to my shape and size, and avoid the ‘cut in’ look. It also draws attention to your hip, rather than your thighs or tum 🙂
-
Bottoms that have frills on them also tend to draw the eye down, so if you like your backside, try some frills!
-
Bikini tops should hold you in – if you have a larger bust, look for support in the straps, don’t buy flimsy traingles! Full cup tops are now easy to find, and bra styles are awesome. If you’ve a smaller bust, detail, detail, detail! Go all out with detail on top.
-
Bright colours – I tend to distract with colour! An awesome print or bright neon can bring our the colour in your skin and look hot teamed with white cover ups.
-
If you have a smaller bust, or are a skinny minnie, try a simple padded triangle bikini with frills or ties.
