Frocktober is here again!
This will be my eighth year taking part in Frocktober, raising funds for the OCRF (Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation).
You can sponsor me and donate straight to the OCRF right here.
I’m going to wear and feature a dress a day on my Instagram, and I’ll also have a round up of my dresses at the end of each week, right here.
If you’re new to Frocktober and are yet to hear about just why raising funds for ovarian cancer research is so important, here’s ten quick facts:
- In Australia, one woman dies every eight hours from ovarian cancer.
- Every year, around 1800 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
- 64% of women recently surveyed by university of Melbourne incorrectly believed a pap smear detects ovarian cancer – it doesn’t.
- There is no early detection test for ovarian cancer.
- Only 29% of women diagnosed at a late stage will survive for more than five years.
- The symptoms of ovarian cancer are often vague, and may not even present significantly until the cancer has advanced. Symptoms can include persistent or sudden onset of: bloating and abdominal swelling, appetite loss or feeling full quickly, tiredness, unexplained changes in weight, change in frequency of urination.
- Proportionally, more women die from ovarian cancer than breast cancer, due to such a high number of women being diagnosed in the advanced stages of the disease.
- 49% of early detection research in Australia has been funded by the OCRF, thanks to the generosity of its supporters.
- Clinicians, researchers and women impacted by ovarian cancer consistently nominated early detec- tion as the number one breakthrough to save women’s lives.
- With an early detection test, it is estimated that over a ten year period, the lives of 8,000 Australian women and 1.3 million women globally could be saved.
So let’s get that early detection test, friends!
If you can’t donate at the moment, I’d really appreciate your support in other ways – firstly be armed with the information about ovarian cancer, and spread it to your friends and family. And, check out the #frocktober2020 tag on Instagram and comment, like and follow some of my Frocking pals!
Thanks again for your support with Frocktober, every year. xx
