PBC Expo Review | Mama + Baby

June 20, 2014

Yesterday I attended the Pregnancy, Babies and Children’s Expo at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre with an invitation from Dorel, the company behind Maxi Cosi, Quinny and Safety First. It was my first time attending the expo; as last year I was only just pregnant and I didn’t want to be spotted coming or going from the expo as we’d not announced the pregnancy formally yet! But after attending yesterday, I wish I had attended before I had Hannah.

Some of my loot!

All of the major baby brands seemed to be there, with baby stores Bubs and Baby Bunting taking up a large proportion of the expo hall. Alongside the recognisable brands, there were many smaller stalls held by owner operators, handmade goods craftspeople and small businesses.

If you’re attending with your bub, you won’t be alone, and the expo provides a large feeding and changing area with free samples from Woolworths.

The aisles were wide and I found it quite easy to navigate around most of the expo with a pram, even when it was quite busy.

I picked up lots of free samples and information, and there were plenty of competitions to enter.

After watching the demonstration of the new Quinny strollers and trialling one (I totally want one of the Quinny Yezz strollers…it has razor scooter wheels! Seriously!), I wandered around and was happy to stumble across Nibbly Bits, as I’d been looking for a teething necklace for quite a while.

Quinny Yezz…loving this chartreuse colour!

These necklaces are BPA free and are safe for baby to chew on and play with – great for when they’re sitting on your lap while you’re out and about and want to keep them occupied. I bought two for an expo special of $50 plus a bracelet for $10 – I look forward to styling them into some outfits. They’re also available online – here.

And for non-mums, you may want to tune out here! Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

As babies are unable to blow their own nose, keeping their nasal passages clear is a difficult task – especially when they’ve got a cold. At the expo I came across ‘Snotty One’ (the name’s a bit cringeworthy) – an electric, washable, waterproof nasal aspirator. I haven’t tried it yet but it did look relatively simple to use and I thought the investment of the expo price of $40 was worthwhile. Hearing a baby struggle to breathe is heartbreaking. They’re also online here.

So after an hour wandering around, I came home with lots of freebies, a couple of products I’m looking forward to trying, and some ideas for new products I’d love to have! At $20 a ticket, I’d say its a worthwhile trip for parents to be or new parents. Parking at the expo cost me $19, however you can find cheaper options at the weekend or even park down at Kangaroo Point for free and wander up.

The expo is on today and tomorrow 10am-5pm. Read more here.

Thanks to Dorel and Blog Power Events for inviting me to attend the expo.

Update!

In my haste to post this review, I neglected to mention I met some lovely bloggers at the expo – Kirsten of Kirsten and co and Bec of The Plumbette. Their blogs are FAB, you should check them out. Here’s a pic of us at the expo. (PS Bec I hope all goes well with your bub which could be arriving any day now?!)
