8 Winter Must Haves | All Under $100

April 9, 2014

Winter in Australia, and especially in Brisbane where I live, (and most of Queensland) is a strange beast. It’s only really cold-cold for a month, maximum. Usually. So as soon as the mercury drops, coats are whipped out of storage and boots are dusted off, because there really only is a short time when you can wear all of your winter goodies at once! Ladies south of the border are much luckier and get to wear winter woollies for much longer. However if you too reside in warmer climes, there’s still much to look forward to this winter, and layering is still a key look. This week I’ve gathered up a few fab key buys for you to update your wardrobe for this season.

1.The parka/anorak

These are so versatile for casual days. Layer it with a chunky jumper and a button up shirt and you’re set.

ASOS Parka AUD$58.34 (on sale)

Mura Baller parka AUD$79

2.Coordinates

Coordinates are one of the most versatile trends this year. If you love the look of a jumpsuit or playsuit but find them not so practical, get amongst the coordinate trend. Yes, this means wearing top to toe of the same print! This (below) is a great option as both pieces are very wearable on their own. Pair the top with some high waisted jogger pants or a bodycon midi skirt and boots, and wear the skirt with a black knit and ankle boots. And keep wearing them when the weather heats up again with some sandals. Together, pair with a black blazer or coat and ankle boots for night time.

3.Over the knee boots

I’m a big lover of black boots of all shapes and sizes, but with this season’s over the knee trend, why not try a taupe or tan? These colours are just as, if not more versatile and can be worn with shift dresses, play suits or to play down the look, over skinny jeans or tights and a tunic top. I still love a good black flat boot too, so couldn’t resist sharing these Billini bad boys too.

Spurr Hetty boot AUD$59.95

Boohoo Sally boots AUD$50

Billini Strut boots AUD$99.95

4. Ankle and peeptoe boot

Ankle boots are the perennial boot in my wardrobe as they go with pretty much everything. This season look for cleated bottoms or peeptoes to update the look.

Boohoo Izzy cleated sole boot (also in black and cobalt) AUD$55

Target Wintour peeptoe boot AUD$40

5. The new skirt

As I’ve featured before, midi skirts are big this season, and will be more so for spring. Skater and fluted bottom skirts are also big news this year. Pair these with a boxy top, leather jacket and ankle boots.

Cloth grid print flipsy skirt AUD$49.95

River Island polka dot skirt AUD$59.95

6. The pastel coat

Mint and pink are big for coats this year. Surprisingly versatile, they look great paired with simple jeans and boyfriend style tops to play down the girlieness. Love!

Mint relaxed coat US$86

Choies pink coat US$78.99

7. The jeans

I think I’ve spoken enough about boyfriend jeans, I love them. So comfy. And, apart from the usual blue jeans, this season white is fresh again, and works so well with the monochrome trend or pastel coats. Here’s a few of my fave finds.

New Look relaxed jeans AUD$48.60

ASOS Ridley white jeans AUD$62.33

8. Oversized and boxy
Comfort is king with this trend, which is also flowing through to accessories, like clutches and hats. Get the look with an oversized jumper and skinny jeans, or a boxy top with a midi skirt.
