Hello my pretties, so I am once again taking part in Frocktober to raise much needed funds for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF). Ovarian cancer is a scary beast and the more funds the OCRF receives, the closer they are to discovering an early detection test – something that’s currently lacking.
Some facts about ovarian cancer (from OCRF):
- Ovarian cancer is the ninth most common cancer diagnosed in women and the second most commonly diagnosed gynaecological cancer
- Every year approximately 1,200 Australian women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer, most of them with an advanced stage of the disease
- On average 3 Australian women are diagnosed every day
- One in 90 women will of develop ovarian cancer in her lifetime
- Six out of 10 ovarian cancer cases occur in women over the age of 60
- The average age of women at diagnosis is 63 years
- The risk of ovarian cancer increases with age.
- An estimated 1,488 women are expected to be diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2015
- Ovarian cancer is the seventh most common cause of cancer death in Australian women
- Ovarian cancer is the most common cause of death from a gynaecological cancer
Symptoms:
See, a very scary beast. And that’s why every year I take part in Frocktober. Every day during the month of October I wear a dress (I try to wear a different one each day, without buying anything new – trust me, it’s difficult!) and donate the money I saved to the OCRF. My friends and family also sponsor me in this quest by donating straight to the cause. This year it’s a little bit moe difficult as I am currently seven months pregnant! All of my dresses so far have either been smocks, shifts, swing dresses or tight midi dresses – I’m hanging to wear a gorgeous waist-hugging A line again!
