Last month, I took part in Drop Dead Gorgeous Daily’s March Style Shakeup (on Instagram). I found it an awesome challenge in making my work wardrobe more interesting. I was digging out things that had been hidden away in my wardrobe or shoe cupboard for eons, and giving them a new lease on life for work, daily. I’ve always loved dressing for the weekend, but I’ve found dressing for work a bit boring in the past. It takes a bit of time and pre-planning, but dressing for work can be fun too.
Here’s my steps to make this work for you:
1 SORT. Sort through your clothes and shoes, picking out items that may be work appropriate. This depends on your workplace, but usually it involves things that are a little more on the conservative side, don’t flash too much flesh and look a little dressy. Think about:
- Button up shirts – tucked into an A line skirt.
- Maxi dresses dressed up with a blazer.
- Coloured pants (or even jeans) dressed up with white shirts and heels.
- Sun dresses with a statement necklace and blazer.
- Casual wedges to dress down a party dress.
- Bright red or pink lippie to dress up plain dress.
- Ankle boots with tights and a dress.
- Bright colourful nails and a plain pants and shirt combo.
These are just a few ideas, I’m sure after a while you’ll think of some of your own. Check out fashion blogs to also gather some great ideas.
2. PLAN. Personally, I plan the outfit of what I’m wearing the night before, and make sure it’s clean, ironed if necessary and ready to go. I also make sure the shoes I’m planning to wear are clean and are comfortable to wear to work.
3. WEAR WITH CONFIDENCE! That’s really all there is to it! Now, go!
