The Hidden Boutique Blue Shirt Dress | One Item, Three Ways

    OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I have a little treat today as not only have I discovered a new, affordable online store for you, but I have a gorgeous little day dress that will slot right into your wardrobe.

Say hello to The Hidden Boutique* – a super affordable online store, offering gorgeous wardrobe casual basics and party dresses at wallet friendly prices (and with zip-pay too!).

When Tori from The Hidden Boutique contacted me I was surprised: firstly for the fact I hadn’t come across the store before and secondly how perfectly priced her curated range of garments were! I had trouble deciding on an item to focus on in this week’s one item, three ways feature – however this Harper and Me shirt dress stood out for its versatility.

A gorgeous, classic cornflower blue, this little dress is spring and summer ready with the simple addition of sandals and a hat, or throw on some tan heels and grab a clutch for a dinner date or night out. I also love to pair a shirt dress with loafers for a comfortable, polished look for work or a meeting. I wore it today to a meeting in the city – practical for the walk to the meeting; yet comfortable and stylish for meeting new people, too.

Apart from its versatility, this dress is also super practical for nursing with the button down front; and with the addition of the pockets and draped front section it’s flattering over the stomach. The sleeves are also easy to fold up and button back for a stylist touch. It’s polyester so has a silky feel. I’m wearing a 10 and I think it’s quite true to size. Did I mention it’s $49?!

Here’s how I styled it The Hidden Boutique’s Harper and Me blue shirt dress.

7 of My Favourite Breastfeeding Friendly Tops | Mama + Baby

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Processed with VSCO with a5 preset

If there’s one thing I get asked about more than anything else it’s breastfeeding friendly tops and dresses. And don’t worry, I feel you! Clothes that are nursing-friendly are often difficult to come by.

I’m now 9 months into breastfeeding my second daughter,  and my first was also breastfed, so I have picked up a few tips and tricks along the way.

I must confess that these days I tend to wear any old top, as Audrey nurses less frequently, however the tops I’ve featured here allow easy access from the top, so your stomach is not exposed. If you’re worried about stomach exposure but still want to wear a t-shirt, you can always wear a nursing singlet underneath.

If you’re looking for more tips on what to wear while breastfeeding, check out my post at Styling You here.  If you’re after more breastfeeding-friendly, specific tops, be sure to check out Blossom and Glow,  The Blushing Fox or Mammas Got Milk.

Here’s 7 of my favourite breastfeeding friendly tops that are hanging in my wardrobe right now. (Stay tuned for my feature on my favourite breastfeeding-friendly dresses soon.)

A great little top from St Frock, they have many prints in the same design, check them out here.

Stripes and Denim | What I’m Wearing

shein stripe shirt dress pretty chuffed blogger

It’s a classic combo – stripes and denim; and for me it’s a no-brainer Monday outfit. Although I do not go off to a paid job on Monday mornings, I still find it difficult to get up and go on a Monday morning – after two days of co-parenting it’s back to solo parenting from 8am-6pm again!

For the past few weeks I’ve been planning my outfits for the week on Sunday afternoon, with Monday and sometimes Tuesday fully planned out, and a rough guide of what I’ll wear the other week days. I find planning my outfits and just getting up, showering and getting dressed a great start to the day and makes me feel ahead before the day has even started.

Today I went for a classic combo of a shirt dress, denim jacket and boots – a comfortable yet practical outfit for the day. Hannah had a ballet lesson this morning and we followed that up with a park play and now napping all around (well, apart from me!).

    16 Wrap Dresses Under $100 | Must-haves

    IMG_0796

You might already know by now that I LOVE wrap and shirt dresses, and the best thing is that wrap dresses are having a major fashion moment right now. Perhaps helped along by the gorgeous Realisation label and their Diane wrap dress (sadly out of my price range but it’s here if you’d like to buy), wrap dresses are big news this spring/summer and I could NOT be happier. Versatile, flattering and comfortable, wrap dresses are also a fashionable godsend for pregnant and nursing mothers. Yippee to something on trend and practical!

Today I’ve found 12 wrap or wrap-style dresses, all under $100 and all totally spring-ready (or pair them with boots and a cropped jacket now for cooler days).  Now, if you’re after a true wrap dress, please check the description carefully, as some of these may be wrap-style, draped wrap or faux wrap dresses (which means they do not adjust as much).

    Happy shopping!

Blossom and Glow Maryann Top | One Item, Three Ways

    feature

Today’s one item, three ways features the Maryann top from Blossom and Glow. I always receive questions from breastfeeding mamas looking for cool and comfy nursing tops – well, look no more!

This little top is under $50, loose fit, longer at the back, clip button for easy nursing, and nice and light and soft – if that doesn’t hit your wish list for a breastfeeding top I don’t know what will!

This only just arrived and I couldn’t wait to style it. Today I’ve worn it with some black tights (for iCurvy’s #rulebreakersclub), a vest and boots, but it’s super easy to style and I will wear it next with my blue ripped jeans and tan ankle boots. Today I’ve styled it two other different ways, however – with some luxe-feel khaki pants and white skinny jeans. Both are easily worn casually; however I’ve amped it up a little with heels and boots.

I’m wearing the size S top and I think is quite true to size – a comfy fit.

Why You Need a Little Black Shirt Dress | What I’m Wearing

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Oh yes, you do. You need one of these in your life! I’m talking about a little black shirt dress – if you don’t have one, may I gently suggest you look into them, because I think a little black shirt dress is the most versatile thing in my wardrobe! A little black shirt dress can be worn so many ways, both casually and formally. Here’s a few ideas:

    • Sandals and sunnies for quick catch ups.
    • Sneakers and a scarf for shopping or taking the kids to the park.
    • Statement necklace and heels for dinner out.
    • Open over a shirt and jeans as a light jacket.
    • Leggings and boots layered with a sleeveless coat for cooler days.
    • Over a swimsuit with thongs for the beach.
    • Over skinny jeans for a cool winter look.
    • Layered under a faux fur vest with ankle boots for Autumn.
    • Paired with lace up flats and a big tote for work.
    • Statement earrings and skinny strap heels for a girls’ night.
    • With a denim jacket and ankle boots for a barbecue.

…and that’s just a start! I’ve had many black shirt dresses before however this one from St Frock certainly hits all the right notes. It’s a flattering length, slightly longer in the back; has edgy batwing sleeves; fold up cuffs; a comfy viscose fabric; hidden button placket for a bit of class and to make it dressier, and a classic self tie around the waist. Today we had Audrey’s four month vaccinations and I wore it chiefly for its easy breastfeeding access, and I also felt like looking a bit more polished. I paired it with some animal print sandals, but you can wear it with any shoe style, really!

Midi Dress Print Perfection | What I’m Wearing

    OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This week has been trying, at best. Hannah has evolved into her second phase of the terrible twos, and I’m pretty sure Audrey is teething. So not much sleep as been had around these parts. Thus, we’ve been having a bit of a quiet week and I haven’t had much need to dress up too much, and it’s been all about casual comfort.

When I first saw this dress at St Frock I knew it would be perfect for breastfeeding (and it is) and I just loved the print, and although I’ve worn it casually, it could be dressed up so easily, too. It is a very light cotton-feel material and is quite roomy in the bust area so is perfect for nursing. The print includes tan, orange, blue and black and plays on the 70s aesthetic perfectly. And, it just made me feel good. Do you have any pieces of clothing that just make you feel good?
