What to Wear: When Breastfeeding In Winter

    July 8, 2019

It can be difficult to work out what to wear when breastfeeding in winter for a few reasons – if you’re going to be out and about you’re going to be getting your nips out in the literal nippy weather, you have to have easy access despite wearing layers, and if you live somewhere where it doesn’t stay cold for long, you won’t want to invest too much money on new clothes. On that, I do have to preface this post by saying I live in Brisbane, and we have about two weeks of true winter each year. LOL. Although it doesn’t get as cold here, or stay cold for as long as it does in many other states, we do feel the chill, as many of our homes and businesses are just not made to keep us warm. However if you live somewhere really cold, you’ll need to add another layer on, like a coat, and you may like to look into some thermals – I’d buy Uniqlo Heattech leggings and pants. In saying that, while I’m breastfeeding I do tend to be a bit warmer than usual, so you may not need it!

This time around, with baby number three, it’s my first time breast-feeding a very small baby in the colder months, as both of my girls were summer babies. Thus, I’ve had to curate and use a whole new breastfeeding wardrobe, and I’ve found a number of different items that work for me. So, below, I’ve created a list of things I wear as well as other items I’ve found that might be just the ticket to get you through the winter months. And all under $100 of course.

I’m currently feeding Noah (12 weeks) on demand and I previously fed my girls to 2 and 1.5 years. I personally have a few of these items I’ve featured to buy, however the rest are items I think would work well for breastfeeding during winter. I tend to wear a lot of button downs and stretchy tops during winter as then I don’t have to lift up! I personally don’t worry about layering a singlet underneath however it is another way to keep warm and cover up. Vests, scarves and cardigans are also amazing for keeping warm while breastfeeding. Here’s some of my favourite breastfeeding outfits I’ve worn recently, followed by some great buys, that will hopefully help you with what to wear when breastfeeding in winter.
