How To Wear a Playsuit | Trend to Try

    September 30, 2016

One of my favourite items of clothing to wear during the warmer months is a playsuit. Just like a dress, a playsuit is a complete outfit, yet also offers the practicality of shorts. A playsuit is just perfect for summer days (and hanging with little kids).

Some may be intimidated by the playsuit, however, so today I’ve compiled a few tricks and tips for wearing playsuits, and I’ve also styled a super cute little playsuit that is not only a bargain, it’s also nursing friendly and versatile.

So here’s how to wear a playsuit – my top tips and tricks:

    • Firstly – the basics – what is a playsuit? Playsuits are the short version of a jumpsuit; basically a dress with shorts on the bottom. (Also known as a romper on some websites.) They are a complete outfit and often can be dressed up or down with the simple change of shoe – the playsuit I’m wearing today is a great example of one that can be dressed up or down.
    • Playsuits are perfect for those shorter in stature, however taller ladies need not look away! Sometimes shopping a size larger in a playsuit works really well – I often size up to get the right length in the shorts, as I have a short torso and longer legs (for my height!). Culotte jumpsuits are also something to look out for if you’re on the taller side and are really on trend.
    • Printed playsuits are arguably easier to wear than a plain colour – they require less accessorising and create a simpler outfit in all.
    • Many are intimidated by playsuits because of the bathroom factor – yes, you will need to pull the playsuit down over your head to use the bathroom. Trust me – it’s not as big of a deal as you might think. After all, you don’t usually share a toilet cubicle or a bathroom! To make bathroom trips easier, try not to wear a jumper or jacket over the playsuit (for ease), and wear playsuits that allow you to wear a proper bra (easier to adjust when undressing than when wearing a strapless, for example). By keeping accessories and shoes simple you’ll also make things easier on yourself. The playsuit I am wearing today can easily be worn with a normal bra.

The playsuit I’m wearing today also hits a few key spring/summer trends – the flared sleeve, the boho print and the wrap top. It also features some amazing ruffles around the shorts which is so cute and flattering on the leg. It has a zip up back (which doesn’t go the whole way up, so is quite easy to get undone for bathroom trips) and a self tie.

To be honest, it feels and looks a lot more expensive than it is, and I think this lends to quite a number of occasions. I’d dress this up with a cute boater hat and low block heels for the races, nude pumps and a coral lip for a party or style like I have today with some lace up sandals and tan bag for a casual day time look. I’m wearing a size 10, and I think it is quite true to size. I’m 158cm tall and this playsuit is a perfect length for me, so if you’re taller perhaps size up – you can bring in the waist with the self tie, too.
