Before I Had A Daughter…

March 1, 2015

Before I had a child, I was always against the notion of the ‘pink is for girls, blue is for boys’ type of thing, as I thought children should choose what colours they like and not have it forced upon them – you don’t have to like pink to be a girl. And boys can certainly wear pink! When I was pregnant, although I guessed the gender (I saw it on the ultrasound screen – I did a lot of research!) I was against telling anyone the gender as I didn’t want a huge amount of pink, princessy things given to us, should people buy us gifts (although I would have been thankful, regardless). I was always like ‘my daughter will not wear pink’. ‘My daughter will not wear flower headbands’. You know, before you have children you somehow have such a different idea of what is important with parenting, don’t you?

Anyway, I had to stop and have laugh yesterday. Hannah is currently obsessed with putting things on her head, and she loves flower crowns. And her outfit. Well, let’s just say things change when you actually do become a parent. Let this photo illustrate my point. And let’s just stop and have a laugh about things we said in the past, shall we?!

I hear you! Although I love pink myself, I didn’t want to force it upon my daughter and am happy to put her in blues, purples, oranges, yellows, greys and all manner of patterns that toddlers can own. Lately she has started refusing to wear her silver shoes and insisting on pink. Who am I to disagree?

It is so funny isn’t it. Hannah has mostly non-pink clothes but she has amassed quite a bit of pink of late – and she seems to love it. So true. 🙂

You just go with what they like! I saw a great pic that basically said girls liking pink isn’t the problem it’s when they don’t get any choice other than pink!

Totally agree with that Danielle! It’s so funny how she has been naturally drawn to pretty things – flowers, pink. She does love Thomas the Tank though. Haha 🙂

Totally feel you on this one. I had so many preconceived notions on what I would and would not do and let’s just say that’s not exactly how it turned out!

It’s so like that isn’t it! I think this is just an example of how different a parent I am to what I thought I would be. You just don’t know what it’s going to be like until you’re in the thick of it 🙂 xx
