The DFO Jindalee Challenge | Summer Holiday Wardrobe for $100

January 9, 2015

You know that list of places you have always wanted to visit but never thought you'd make it there? My 'place' is Hawaii. I've always wanted to go, ever since I saw Blue Hawaii (Ps happy birthday Elvis) when I was a youngster. Well, I've got something extremely exciting to share: we're going to Hawaii in March! Husby and I bagged some super affordable flights last year and in a few short months we'll be jetting off! But first, what to pack?! I've decided I want to travel light, (I can already hear my husbands laughter when he reads that) yes, light I said. So, this to me means a capsule wardrobe – pieces that can be dressed up or down and are interchangeable. The easiest way to achieve a capsule wardrobe is to limit colours, and I've decided on a monochrome palette with injections of colour and metallics through accessories. With that in mind, and $100 to spend, I set off to DFO Jindalee*.

The first stop I made was Cotton On, where I thought I'd pick up a pair of sandals. Right now at their DFO Jindalee outlet they have a wall of sandals at a bargain 3 pairs for $10 (or $10 each) – I know right – CA-RAZY! Of course I took them up on their offer and bagged a metallic pair and two black pairs for $10. Also in Cotton On I picked up an amazing tribal tote with gold and hot pink accents for $10 (I've seen similar in upmarket stores for $150!); and a black crossover playsuit with pockets and pop button closure for $15. This will be perfect over swimmers or dressed up with a necklace and heels for after-beach bar action!

The next stop was Factorie where I spied an amazing full piece black sports-style swimsuit for $20 down from $40, but unfortunately they didn't have my size. I did, however, pick up a super cute and flattering black and white check bikini for the same price. It's surprisingly well-fitted for such a small price.

I then pulled up in Just Jeans, where I found an amazing white eyelet and crochet lace midi dress for $50, down from $80. It meant I was a little over my $100 budget but after trying it on and assessing that it was fully lined, cool cotton and super comfy, I had to have it.

To complete my summer wardrobe, I've paired these items with other DFO Jindalee buys – the $15 Supre panama and $5 Just Jeans sunglasses. What do you think?

That’s some good bargain hunting! A successful day at a DFO is so satisfying! Hawaii is lots of fun. Can recommend the Paradise Cove luau for a bit of fun and a visit to the Big Island’s black sand beaches and volcano. Otherwise the sand, shopping and sipping $1.75 Mai tais are pretty good too!

Thanks Bec – I really do find some awesome things every time I go. I should write about all the things I found but didn’t fit into my budget… Like the $28 white kaftan I saw in Rivers! I’m still thinking about it. Maybe I will go back this week 🙂 xx
